1.             The Word of God

But the LORD took me from tending the flock and said to me, 'Go, prophesy to my people Israel.' 16 Now then, hear the word of the LORD …                Amos 7:15-16

1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning…14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.                                    John 1:1-2,14

2.             Lifestyle Not Profession Validates Faith

14 Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the LORD God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is.                            Amos 5:14

16By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?          Matthew 7:16

3.             Denounced Religious Hypocrisy

21 "I hate, I despise your religious feasts; I cannot stand your assemblies. 22 Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them.
Though you bring choice fellowship offerings, I will have no regard for them. 23 Away with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps. Amos 5:21-23

10 I will turn your religious feasts into mourning and all your singing into weeping.
I will make all of you wear sackcloth and shave your heads. I will make that time like mourning for an only son and the end of it like a bitter day.                        Amos 8:10

Giving to the Needy 2"So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men.

Prayer 5"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men.

Fasting 16"When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting.                             Matthew 6:2,5,16

25"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.
33"You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?

                                                                                                                Matthew 23:25,33

4.             Condemned Lack of Compassion

Judgment on Israel 6 This is what the LORD says:
"For three sins of Israel, even for four, I will not turn back {my wrath}. They sell the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of sandals. 7 They trample on the heads of the poor as upon the dust of the ground and deny justice to the oppressed.

42For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'
44"They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' 45"He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.' 46"Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."                                                   Matthew 25:42-46

“Anyone who has seen himself as the man lying in the road, as spiritually poor, will then live a life of generosity toward the outcast and the needy.

A sensitive social conscience and a life poured out in deeds of mercy to the needy is the inevitable outcome and sign of true faith.  By such deeds God can judge true love from lip service.-“      (Timothy J. Keller    Ministries of Mercy)

5.             Privilege Brings Peril

2 "You only have I chosen of all the families of the earth; therefore I will punish you for all your sins."                                                                                            Amos 3:2

From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.                     Luke 12:48

6.             Warned of Coming Judgment

A businessman from Wisconsin went on a business trip to Louisiana. Upon arrival, he immediately plugged his laptop into the hotel room port and sent a short email back home to his wife, Jennifer Johnson, at her address, JennJohnson@global.com.Unfortunately, in his haste, he mistyped a letter and the email ended up going to JeanJohnson@global.com, a Jean Johnson in Duluth, the wife of a priest who had just passed away and was buried that day. The priest's wife took one look at the E-mail and promptly fainted. It read: "Arrived safely, but it sure is hot down here!"                                                                               Sharon James

"Most of God's people are contented to be saved from the hell that is without. They are not so anxious to be saved from the hell that is within." - Robert Murray McCheyne

18 Woe to you who long for the day of the LORD ! Why do you long for the day of the LORD ? That day will be darkness, not light. 19 It will be as though a man fled from a lion only to meet a bear, as though he entered his house and rested his hand on the wall only to have a snake bite him.                                 Amos 5:18-19

9 "In that day," declares the Sovereign LORD , "I will make the sun go down at noon
and darken the earth in broad daylight.                           Amos 8:9

27For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 28Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather. 29"Immediately after the distress of those days  " 'the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.'  30"At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory.                               Matthew 24:27-30

41The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
                                                                                                                Matthew 25:41,46

41"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels… 46"Then they will go away to eternal punishment..."                                                    Matthew 25:41,46

7.             The Solution is Repentance

6 "I gave you empty stomachs in every city and lack of bread in every town, yet you have not returned to me," declares the LORD .
8 People staggered from town to town for water but did not get enough to drink, yet you have not returned to me," declares the LORD .
9 Locusts devoured your fig and olive trees, yet you have not returned to me," declares the LORD .
10 "I sent plagues among you as I did to Egypt. I killed your young men with the sword, along with your captured horses.
I filled your nostrils with the stench of your camps, yet you have not returned to me," declares the LORD .                                                    Amos 4:6,8,9,10

17From that time on Jesus began to preach, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."                                                                   Matthew 4:17

8.             Offered Ultimate Hope

Israel's Restoration 11 "In that day I will restore David's fallen tent. I will repair its broken places, restore its ruins, and build it as it used to be, 14 I will bring back my exiled people Israel; they will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them…15 I will plant Israel in their own land, never again to be uprooted from the land I have given them," says the LORD your God.                                                     Amos 9:11,14,15

51I tell you the truth, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death."
                                                                                                                John 8:51

Jesus Comforts His Disciples
1"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God ; trust also in me. 2In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.                      John 14:1-3

The New Jerusalem

1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."

5He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true."
6He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son.                                                                                                Revelation 21:1-7

Conclusion 1        Believe Him

44Then Jesus cried out, "When a man believes in me, he does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. 45When he looks at me, he sees the one who sent me. 46I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.
47"As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it. 48There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day. 49For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it. 50I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say."                                                                                                              John 12:44-50

When he says “Do not Worry, love those who hate you, confess your sins to each other, this book is God’s love letter to you…”.who do you believe, him or you?

Conclusion           2              Obey Him

5His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." John 2:5

When he says, “Do not marry an unbeliever, honor God with your money (all of it not just 10%)….’ What do you do, what he says or whatever you want?
